Position : Professional Civil Engineer/Technologist
Location : Western Cape, Cape Town

The key responsibilities for this role are to:
Assist in budgeting, resource allocation, and outsourcing decisions within the section
Enhance design capabilities and overall quality
Prepare technical reports of acceptable technical and presentational standards
Offer technical solutions and develop an understanding of their implications
Take responsibility for reviewing and ensuring the quality of others' work
Effectively present and represent their technical work, as well as promote service offerings to potential clients and showcase technical work at technical conferences
Draft responses to straightforward bids, with assistance as needed for commercial aspects
Develop knowledge of the commercial aspects of project management
Delegate tasks to others
Successfully identify and pursue leads for additional work opportunities on projects they are involved in
Develop an understanding of Functional Unit technologies and markets
Cultivate specialized technical expertise, with a focus on niche skills within relevant software tools or non-standard software tools
Supervise a small team of Engineers
Oversee Engineers or Technicians in conducting checks and inspections of constructed works to ensure compliance with design and specifications, including proposing corrective actions
Ensure quality assurance throughout the project life cycle
Support business development efforts by selling services to clients, contributing to marketing material development, identifying key partners and technologies for SMEC services
Provide assistance to the Contracts Engineer (C&P specific)
Collaborate with management staff
Manage sub-consultants
Engage in communication with clients on general matters
Handle multiple projects/contracts simultaneously
Prepare and implement Works Authorizations/Variation Orders
Assess Contractor's claims and draft recommendations/rulings/determinations
Recommended Qualifications, Skills and Experience
Bachelor of Engineering degree/higher degree from accredited university/college
Minimum 3 years of practical experience
Experience in Bridge and Structural Engineering
Advantageous to have experience in pedestrian bridges, highway structures and rail structures
Clear understanding of local functional business technologies and markets
Knowledge of basic project management and the use of project management software
