Private Home Tutor - Houtbay, WC Full job description Tutor for 9 year old PDAer – Hout Bay area. We are currently seeking a tutor/au pair to support a 9-year-old PDAer at home. He has a special interest in history, loves reading, and gaming. We are looking for someone who can provide academic assistance, foster his interests, and create a supportive, flexible, and engaging environment for him at home. Main Purpose of the job: To be a “helping hand” to an individual with unique and specific challenges and support needs, giving him the necessary guidance and support to thrive. A special interest and passion to be a secure, long-term source of support to a neurodivergent individual is of the utmost importance. The candidate will be trained by the NDC Facilitation Academy and thereafter receive personalised support from a registered counsellor for up to one month, working in collaboration with a psychologist and the wider multidisciplinary team based at the Neurodiversity Centre. Job Objectives: Becoming a core member of the multi-disciplinary team handling intervention around the child, collaborating together to support his individual support needs. Using a self-directed approach to provide learner support/tutoring for him at home. Assisting with homeschooling and supporting his academic learning style Support and scaffolding for his regulation needs (lessening uncertainty and anxiety for him). To plan and organise suitable fun educational activities and outings for the individual using a self-directed approach. Going for walks/doing outdoor activities together. Occasional driving for outings. Benefits: Support and training from a multi-disciplinary team knowledgeable in the field of Neurodiversity. General Requirements: A valid driver’s license and reliable car – Essential. Fluent in English. Being fun and relaxed with a non-demanding approach to create a comfortable environment for the child - Essential. Education Requirements: Qualification in teaching – Essential. Job Related work experience. Previous experience in a role supporting neurodivergent children - Essential. Experience in a neurodiverse educational setting as a tutor/teacher – Desirable. Job Related Knowledge: Familiarity and knowledge of Pathological Demand Avoidance (PDA) – Desirable. Familiarity with a low arousal approach – Essential. Knowledge of the unique support needs of a neurodivergent (ASC & ADHD) individual – Essential. Job Related Skills: Ability to minimise stress and anxiety for the individual - Essential. Strong verbal communication skills – Essential. Organizational skills, i.e., ability to implement structure - Essential. Social and life skills – Essential. Relationship building skills - Essential. Working hours: Monday - Friday 08:30-10:30.
