Cape Town - A leading civil engineering contractor in the Western Cape is currently recruiting for a Buyer to purchase goods, materials and services to ensure that the company's operational needs are met, taking into account price, quality and delivery and to ensure continuity of supply and service to its customers by providing regular reports on procurement activities, as well as on-going budgeting and cost control.
This is a great opportunity for a hands on buyer with solid experience in the construction industry.
Requirements:
Matric (Grade 12), Diploma / Degree
5 years+ working experience as a buyer in civils/construction
Extensive knowledge of civil & building materials
Valid driver's licence essential
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Research, select and purchase quality products and materials.
- Ensure construction materials are provided to schedule and according to projected budgets.
- Liaising closely with the tender department to ensure that an accurate project cost are provided.
- Provide prices for all materials included in project plans and drawings.
- Identify potential suppliers and new products.
- Liaise with suppliers and sub‐contractors to obtain quotations and agree delivery times.
- Maintain detailed records and a well‐organised work schedule.
- Assess the reliability of sub‐contractors and suppliers according to company procurement policy.
- Effectively manage any challenges with suppliers and the process flow of procuring materials.
- Negotiate and agree on the most favourable terms possible with suppliers once a contract has been secured.
